Default My Recording Using Back To Her Roots

Wasting Away song details - Made with DrumTracks.com

Home recording on computer using Audiophile audio card, a 4 channel mixer, and cool edit pro. I still need to add bass and a professional vocalist. If you guys notice any timing problems let me know, I sliced up the drum track alot. Back to Her Roots is in the country category but I used it for rock!

Hi Lucid,
Audiophile was my first digital sound card about 8-9 years ago! I love it. Although it considered a cheap one, it has a wonderful quality.

It was a bit hard to listen to the song since the drums were very loud in the mix. However, I didn't hear any significant editing or timing issues. It seems like you did a good job with that. Maybe you can share another mix version?

Elad.

Thanks for the feedback. The drums actually are overpowering, I didn't notice that really. I cut the drums by 8db and tried to even the tracks out so don't hesitate to let me know specifics like "try to cut/raise this or that track by xdb".

I have the audiophile 2496 model, I think I paid about $150 for it new back in the day. Would you say it's good enough to record a demo?

That's much better!
So here are a few stuff that in my opinion will improve the song:

Put some blanks after the chorus and before the next verse. To me, it seems like the song is in full power throughout the entire song. Putting an 8 bar blank of just guitars or just drums, will make it more dynamic. You can even put some breaks and off beats. You'll be amazed to see that by taking a few beats from a bar - it will sound surprisingly more interesting.

There are some sync issues with the guitars in the solo part. I think it's the backing guitars that messing it up - not sure.

You can get custom bass tracks and professional vocal tracks recorded for this song at StudioPros.com.

Way to go there!
I didn't notice any timing problems to be honest, with a first time hearing it's not bad at all!
For sure you'd need to add some stuff to it. I think bass (like you said before) should be added, and maybe the electric guitar is a bit too 'distorted' for the whole mix.
Did you work on the whole mix (EQ, master, etc) with it?
