The song is called "slowly" but don't that that fool you-- this track moves along like a train pulling out of a station, and the 6/8 time signature works like an audio cliff-hanger for the ears, keeping things edgy. The track drops right into the groove, with the brushes working the snare and dancing around a booming, bassy kick drum. Cymbals fill out the fills, and lead into a few rests (sometimes reducing to just the brushes on the snare.) and subsequent build-ups. The odd tom is thrown in for variety. If I had to characterize it, I'd call it "Workingman's jazz" It's got the lightness that comes from deft brushwork, but the work ethic is strictly blue collar-- this track gets 'er done (with style.)
