This is a gritty, urgent R&B track. It opens with a big, bassy, almost tribal toms/kick/snare intro before transitioning into a kick/snare/hi-hat backbeat, and then quickly breaks down to the hats at 00:30. The kick and snare come in for quick fills during the breakdown, teasing a return to the backbeat which delivers at 00:49, but this time building intensity as the hats open up, and the rhythm surges forward until it drops back to the big toms/kick intro. Another quick transition breaks it down to the hats again, then starts building. The parts in the first half of the song are all fairly short, and the transitions are lively. There is a series of three quick rests starting at 2:46, punctuated by kick, snare and crash, before a fill takes it into an augmented backbeat, with the ride taking the place of the hats, and building momentum with the crash and splash cymbals. There's no turning back from this point on, and it rides out until the end of the song, getting back to the tribal toms for the last measure before stopping hard and fast, leaving you wanting more.
