The track starts with a down-tempo build. First, the kick bangs out a cool R&B rhythm then the snare comes in on the one, followed by the hats. Lots of air and space in this first part, but it keeps building intensity, adding more snare and cymbals as the ride pushes things along. Nicely panned toms and cymbal runs do the heavy lifting during the fills. It continues to build until 1:35 when a toms fill ushers in a breakdown to the hats and kick, and the snare back on the one. From here we have a series of build-ups and breakdowns, similar to the beginning but taking less time between transitions-- just like punching a clock. After the last breakdown at 3:44, two big and relatively quick builds on the kick and toms send the track into the home stretch-- an extended build-up that pulls out all the stops with lots of snare, kick and toms, and the cymbals competing with each other for attention, all putting in one last drive to get to the end of the work day and the promise of a cold beer down at the corner bar. Hard working man -- hard working track.
