The track opens with the hats on the one, and the kick coming in with a down-tempo blues rhythm. Nice, warm and woody cross-sticking on the snare joins the groove at 00:32 with a splash cymbal occasionally adding texture. At 1:23 the cross-sticking is exchanged for a big, punchy snare sound, and then it's back to the first part. The track moves back and forth between these two parts - the kick and hats faithfully holding it together while the snare and cymbals play. Fills come from the toms, and variations on the snare. At 3:09 the ride comes in, pushing the beat, while the splash and crash fill out the high end -- then it’s back to the cross-sticking. A short rest at 4:20 sends the track into a higher gear with the ride coming on hard and taking the track to the end in a swirl of cymbals.
